Retained surgical items are classified as a Never Event — they should never happen and are always preventable.3 Current techniques for needle transfer in laparoscopy are tedious and error-prone. Needles can catch or pop off, wasting operative time, exposing patients to additional radiation, and, in rare cases, forcing conversion to open surgery.
Boba Straw is designed to streamline needle transfer in laparoscopy, reducing steps, minimizing error risk, and improving surgical workflow.
Cervical dilation is central to every patient’s labor, yet it is still assessed through gloved hands. These measurements are subjective, invasive, and dependent on provider availability. No wonder the CDC4 reports that 1 in 5 women experience mistreatment during childbirth.
The Fig introduces an objective way to measure cervical dilation, supporting patient autonomy, easing clinician workload, and giving hospitals a clearer method to triage patients in early labor. The goal is to help make birth the empowering experience it should be.
By focusing on simple, high-impact solutions — the “low-hanging fruit” — we aim to elevate the standard of care in OB/GYN.
